The National Stock Exchange (NSE) has launched monthly electricity futures contracts.
The new contracts are aimed at facilitating price discovery and providing hedging tools for power generators, distribution companies, and large consumers. On the first day of trading, more than 4,000 contracts were exchanged, representing around 200 million units of electricity, with a total turnover of over Rs 870 million. The contracts are based on electricity prices published by Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) and are settled in cash.
