NTPC Limited has directed Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) to suspend flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) installation activities at five under-construction coal-based thermal power projects in Lara-II, Singrauli-III, Sipat-III, Darlipalli-II, and Telangana-II due to a recent exemption notification by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC).
The move affects over 7 GW of planned capacity after MoEF&CC released a notification which exempts plants located beyond 10 km from major urban or polluted areas from mandatory FGD compliance.
