Arjun Mehta is a renewable energy professional with over 17 years of corporate experience in India and the UK. He has worked across diverse sectors including green hydrogen, renewable energy generation, electronics recycling and investment banking focused on European energy utilities. His core areas of expertise include business development, strategy formulation, programme management and commercial negotiations.
He currently operates as an independent consultant in the solar power and green hydrogen sectors, working on market assessments, commercial transactions advisory, business and people strategy development, and project financing. He also plays a leadership role at GH2 India, a green hydrogen-focused industry association, where he drives the organisation’s growth strategy, memberships and programmes.
Mehta actively engages with policymakers, energy developers, technology manufacturers, consumers and financiers to promote the holistic development of the green hydrogen ecosystem. Previously, he has worked with Fortescue Energy, KPMG Advisory and ReNew Power in the clean energy domain, as well as in the electronics recycling and energy investment banking sectors.
According to Mehta, the fossil-free production of hydrogen and its derivatives has significant potential to decarbonise crude refining, fertiliser production, heavy industry, transportation and power sector – all currently dependent on hydrocarbons. While the industry recognises key challenges including high capital outlay, production costs, gaps in institutional knowledge, and evolving policies and regulations, there is consensus that hydrogen will play a pivotal role in a decarbonised future. Despite a slowdown in progress across production and consumption, Mehta believes a hydrogen-driven future is inevitable. He encourages decentralised, empowered and democratic functioning in any team he is part of. He enjoys mentoring younger professionals and guiding peers, while learning continuously from experienced professionals He strongly believes in “failing fast” as a key principle for career growth.
A hands-on father to two toddlers, Mehta is committed to instilling a sustainable way of living to secure a greener future for them. He is also passionate about learning the art of coffee making and is an aspiring chocolate connoisseur.
