China has launched China Yajiang Group Company Limited to undertake the country’s largest-ever hydropower project.
The 60 GW project will increase China’s hydropower capacity by 16 per cent and generation by 22 per cent upon completion in 10–15 years. The project is expected to face significant logistical and engineering challenges. The plant will employ innovative tunnelling and river diversion technology to generate electricity, and is estimated to cost approximately USD167 billion.
