MNRE amends RLMM procedure for wind turbines

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has amended the procedure for inclusion of wind turbine models in the revised list of models and manufacturers (RLMM) and has renamed it as the approved list of models and manufacturers (ALMM-Wind).

The revised framework mandates the use of key wind turbine components such as blade, tower, gearbox, generator and special bearings. These will only be used from manufacturers listed under the newly introduced ALMM (wind turbine components). The amendment also requires all wind turbine research and development centres, data centres, and servers to be located within India to enhance cybersecurity in the sector. The revised norms will not apply to already bid-out projects and captive/open access/third-party sale projects scheduled for commissioning within 18 months.

Further, to promote innovation and new technologies, an exemption from mandatory use of ALMM-listed components will be available for new manufacturers and models for a total capacity of 800 MW over a period of two years.
