Afghanistan secures USD10 billion agreement to develop 10,000 MW power capacity

Afghanistan has secured a USD10 billion agreement with a domestic private company to develop 10,000 MW of electricity generation capacity across multiple provinces.

The project will be implemented between 2026 and 2032 and will utilise a diversified energy mix comprising coal, gas, hydro, wind, and solar sources. The Ministry of Energy and Water stated that the initiative aims to address the country’s chronic power shortages, improve industrial and residential electricity access. The technical design is scheduled to be completed within six months, with initial power production of 2,000–3,000 MW expected in the early phase.
