CEA issues the draft CEA (Technical Standards for Construction of Electrical Plants and Electric Lines) (2nd Amendment) Regulations, 2025

The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has issued draft CEA (Technical Standards for Construction of Electrical Plants and Electric Lines) (2nd Amendment) Regulations, 2025.

The draft covers technical standards for the construction of renewable energy stations and battery storage systems (BESS). All equipment ratings in such plants should be such that it is suitable for continuous operation.  The renewable power developer should install an automatic weather station in the plant to measure parameters including wind speed, atmospheric temperature, relative humidity and atmospheric pressure. The CEA will be issuing guidelines regarding these in 6 months. In addition, phasor measurement units may be installed at locations specified by the CEA in “Guidelines on Unified Philosophy for Placement of Phasor Measurement Units in Indian Grid.” The draft also specifies technical standards for the construction of solar power plants, load considerations, additional requirements for floating solar plants, and technical standards for onshore solar plants. The draft highlights the technical standards for BESS along with the major equipment and components required.
