Singapore launches Future Grid initiatives to enhance electricity system reliability

Singapore has launched a series of initiatives under the future grid capabilities roadmap to strengthen the country’s electricity grid in anticipation of rising complexity and renewable energy integration.

The key initiatives include the launch of a virtual power plant regulatory sandbox, which will run for two years. The sandbox will test the technical and operational capabilities of VPPs in delivering energy and ancillary services to the grid. Pilot participants include Blue Whale Energy, Nanyang Technological University, and SP Group. Additionally, EMA has issued the Energy Grid 3.0 Grant Call to support proposals aimed at improving grid planning and operational capabilities, including managing inertia and other challenges arising from higher penetration of distributed energy resources.
