EBRD commissions Qairokkum hydropower plant in Tajikistan

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has announced the completion of the Qairokkum hydropower plant in Tajikistan, following a rehabilitation programme launched in 2019.

All six hydroelectric units have now been commissioned, with upgrades including dam reinforcement and installation of new turbines, hydraulic steelworks, and electromechanical systems. Supported by a USD196 million financing package arranged by the EBRD, the project has increased the plant’s installed capacity from 126 MW to 174 MW.
