ADB and IAEA sign MoU to advance nuclear energy cooperation in Asia-Pacific

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation on the peaceful and sustainable deployment of nuclear energy in the Asia-Pacific region.

The agreement was signed to recognise nuclear power as a baseload alternative to fossil fuels. The collaboration will support member countries exploring nuclear energy, including small modular reactors, with a focus on safety, sustainability, and governance. Key areas of cooperation include energy planning, fuel cycle and waste management, and full life-cycle oversight of nuclear facilities. ADB is the first regional development bank to enter into such a partnership with the IAEA.
