India and Russia discuss collaboration on building nuclear cooperation

India and Russia have discussed collaboration on small modular reactors, floating nuclear power plants, and a second Russian-assisted nuclear power project.

The meeting also reviewed ongoing progress at the Kudankulam nuclear power plant and reaffirmed energy security as a cornerstone of India–Russia relations. Russia has proposed cooperation on non-electric applications of nuclear technology, including healthcare and agriculture. A joint statement confirmed both countries’ intent to expand nuclear energy cooperation across the fuel cycle, provide lifecycle support to Kudankulam units, and finalise the selection of a second site for a future nuclear plant.
