The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a USD100 million loan to accelerate power sector reforms in Sri Lanka under the Power Sector Reforms and Financial Sustainability Program (Subprogram 2). The initiative builds on earlier ADB lending programmes totalling USD400 million since the country’s 2022 economic crisis. The new financing will support the implementation and long-term sustainability of structural reform measures, with a focus on strengthening financial resilience and improving service delivery. Key objectives include the phased unbundling of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) into independent entities for generation, transmission, system operation, and distribution, in line with the Electricity Act of 2024 and its 2025 amendment.
