South Africa’s Department of Electricity and Energy has prequalified seven international-led consortia to participate in the country’s inaugural independent transmission project programme (ITP) aimed at mobilising large-scale private sector investment into the national power grid.
The ITP programme involves the development of around 1,164 km of new high-voltage transmission lines and associated substation infrastructure across seven preselected corridors, with an estimated investment value of approximately USD 1 billion. The seven prequalified consortia are the Adani Power Middle East–Momentous Energy Consortium, the AREF Cobra Transmission Consortium, Consortium Pulse Infrastructure, the EITP Consortium and others.
