Saudi Arabia appoints contractor for 1,400 MW Najran solar plant

Saudi Arabia has appointed a contractor to develop the 1,400 MW Najran solar photovoltaic plant.

The plant was awarded under the sixth round of competitive bidding under the National Renewable Energy Program and is expected to commence commercial operations in the first half of 2028. The Najran project is noted for one of the lowest levelised costs of electricity globally and forms part of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 agenda to diversify the energy mix and expand renewable capacity. The developer’s broader programme also includes a 600 MW solar project in Jizan province, scheduled to begin operations by late 2027.
