Kiyona Energy secures PPA for 26 MW solar project in Zambia

Kiyona Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Zambia’s state-owned utility ZESCO, has secured a power purchase agreement with Bluesun Solar Zambia Limited for the development of a 26 MW solar photovoltaic project in Zambia.

The project is estimated to involve an investment of USD 22 million to USD 26 million. The construction is expected to commence shortly with commercial operations targeted before the end of 2026.  The project forms part of Zambia’s broader strategy to diversify its generation mix and reduce heavy dependence on hydropower, which accounted for about 90 per cent of the country’s electricity generation in 2023
