Masdar and Octopus Energy have signed two memoranda of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on clean energy initiatives across the UK and Africa.
In the UK, the partnership will focus on unlocking underutilised grid capacity to support energy-intensive loads such as data centres. The companies plan to identify available capacity within distribution networks and develop local energy systems combining on-site solar, battery storage and flexible grid connections, supported by Octopus’ Kraken digital platform to optimise consumption and reduce costs. In Africa, Masdar and Octopus will work together to scale clean energy solutions for commercial and industrial users, starting with South Africa and expanding to other markets. The collaboration will also explore alignment with Octopus Energy’s Power Africa Initiative, which targets mobilising USD 450 million in investments across a range of clean energy solutions.
