State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) has completed installation of all 28 converter transformers at the ±800 kV Baotashan converter station in Shaanxi province and commissioned the 500 kV alternating current system at the Hezhou converter station in Anhui province.
The CNY 20.5 billion project involves construction of a 1,069 km line from Baotashan to Hezhou in Hefei, passing through Henan, and is designed to transmit over 36 TWh of electricity annually from Shaanxi to Anhui. In Shaanxi, the scheme will be connected with 11 GW of new energy capacity and 4 GW of supporting coal-fired capacity, while near the terminus it will also link to the 1.2 GW Yuexi pumped storage station in Anhui.
