The Laos government through Electricité du Laos and in partnership with China Electric Power Equipment and Technology, a subsidiary of State Grid Corporation of China, has commenced construction of a 230 kV transmission line linking Luang Prabang and Xieng Khouang provinces in northern Laos.
The 186 km double-circuit line will connect the Pak Mong 2 substation in Luang Prabang with the Na Phia substation in Xieng Khouang and will pass through nine districts including Nambak, Pak Ou, Pak Seng, Luang Prabang City, Phonxay, Phou Khoun, Phoukoud, Pek and Phaxay.
The project also includes expansion of two bays each at the Pak Mong 2 and Na Phia substations and forms part of Laos’ 2024–30 national energy development plan to strengthen the high voltage transmission network and enhance regional grid connectivity.
