Coal India Limited has reported an increase in capital expenditure (capex) of Rs 9.61 billion on solar energy till January 2026 achieving about 132 per cent of its progressive 2025-26 target of Rs 7.29 billion and surpassing its full-year solar capex target of Rs 9.57 billion.
On a year-on-year basis, solar capex till January 2026 increased to about 2.33 times compared to Rs 4.12 billion in the same period of the previous year. Coal India is targeting 3 GW of renewable capacity by 2027-28 and expects installed renewable capacity to rise to 675 MW by end-2025-26 from about 247 MW as of December 2025. This includes upcoming additions of 100 MW at Patan and 300 MW at Khavda in Gujarat. The company is also evaluating about 2,000 MW of renewable capacity through subsidiaries and joint ventures, including 875 MW with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited and 500 MW with Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited.
