The Government of the Philippines has received three proposals to rehabilitate and operate the 1,000 MW Agus–Pulangi hydropower complex in Mindanao under a long-term public–private partnership (PPP) concession with two bids stated to be under evaluation as the power sector assets and liabilities management corporation (PSALM) advances the process.
The run-of-river hydropower system, developed in the 1950s and operated by the National Power Corporation has seen output decline to about 600–700 MW due to equipment deterioration and rehabilitation is expected to restore capacity, extend plant life and improve grid stability in Mindanao while reducing reliance on fossil-fuel generation.
