Hyundai Motor Group is set to invest USD 6 billion to develop a high-tech innovation hub in Saemangeum, Gunsan, focused on hydrogen production, artificial intelligence and renewable energy. The project will include a 200 MW proton exchange membrane electrolyser plant to produce clean hydrogen using locally sourced renewable energy, with supplies targeted at buses, trams and other mobility applications. The group also plans to develop a gigawatt-scale solar portfolio by 2035, building on its existing 99 MW solar facility, to power artificial intelligence data centres and other energy-intensive operations. Construction of the artificial intelligence data centre and solar infrastructure is scheduled to begin in 2027, with completion expected by 2029.
