Kyrgyzstan’s NESK advances grid modernisation projects in Issyk-Kul region

The National Electric Grid of Kyrgyzstan has launched multiple grid modernisation projects in the Issyk-Kul region as part of the country’s planned energy sector reforms for 2026.

A key project is the Dolinka-Rechnaya scheme, being financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which involves modernisation of the 110/10 kV Dolinka substation and reconstruction of the 35/10 kV Rechnaya substation with an upgrade to 110 kV. The upgraded infrastructure is expected to strengthen power supply for new tourism and related infrastructure projects in the Issyk-Kul region, including five-star hotels in Kara-Oy.
