UPPCL to offer one-time relief to prepaid smart meter consumers after disconnections

Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) is set to offer a one-time relief measure for prepaid smart meter consumers whose electricity supply has been disconnected due to negative balances. Under the arrangement, if a consumer recharges enough to reduce the negative prepaid balance by at least 50 per cent, power supply will be restored for three days. If the balance is not made positive within this period, the connection will be automatically disconnected again. The utility has clarified that this facility will be available only once to each consumer as part of efforts to ease the transition to the prepaid smart metering system.
