India is exploring regional grid connectivity including potential power transmission links with Sri Lanka, as part of efforts to expand cross-border electricity trade and advance the One Sun, One Grid, One World initiative.
At the Bharat Electricity Summit 2026 in New Delhi, Union Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said India is already supplying electricity to Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan, and may begin supplying power to Sri Lanka in the near future. He also highlighted the importance of transmission infrastructure in enabling regional electricity exchange and underlined the role of reliable and affordable power in supporting India’s long-term development goals.
