Singapore’s National Environment Agency (NEA) will commission three studies on nuclear safety standards and environmental considerations as the country evaluates the potential for safe deployment of nuclear energy. The studies will examine international safety standards followed by global agencies and national regulators, environmental standards and regulatory frameworks for nuclear facilities, and environmental considerations related to potential nuclear deployment in Singapore and the region. The work will complement an ongoing Energy Market Authority study on the safety performance and technical feasibility of advanced nuclear energy technologies and is intended to strengthen Singapore’s technical and regulatory assessment capabilities.
