PowerX to establish 2 GWh BESS manufacturing facility in Japan

PowerX is set to establish  a battery energy storage system (BESS) manufacturing facility in Hokkaido, Japan, to expand production of grid-scale storage systems. The facility will manufacture the containerised Mega Power 2500 system and have an annual production capacity of 800 units, equivalent to around 2 GWh. The company has finalised agreements for the acquisition of land and building for the project, which entails an estimated investment of JPY 3 billion.

Manufacturing operations are scheduled to commence in June 2027 and will initially run on a single production line, with provision for expansion to two lines. The facility is intended to serve battery storage demand in the Hokkaido and Tohoku regions and will be developed through renovation of an existing structure near the Port of Tomakomai and New Chitose Airport.
