Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL) has commissioned a 1,000 MW high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission link between Kudus and Aarey in Mumbai through its subsidiary, Adani Electricity Mumbai Infra Limited.
The project comprises a 30 km overhead line and a 50 km underground corridor, and is the world’s first compact HVDC substation using voltage source converter-based technology. Conceived after the October 2020 Mumbai blackout, the project is expected to strengthen grid resilience, reduce dependence on in-city generation and enable higher import of electricity, including renewable power, into Mumbai and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
