BII launches £1.1 billion British Climate Partners for Asia energy transition

British International Investment (BII), the United Kingdom’s development finance institution and impact investor, has launched British Climate Partners (BCP), a £1.1 billion initiative to mobilise private capital for the energy transition in developing Asian economies.

The initiative will deploy capital through equity platforms and mezzanine finance to scale climate projects, reduce early-stage risks and attract commercial investors. It will focus on fast-growing countries with coal-based power systems and rising clean energy demand, including India, the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia. Under its new five-year strategy, BII expects at least 40 per cent of its new investments, including BCP, to qualify as climate finance, compared to 30 per cent in the previous strategy period.
