Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) has commenced “spillage to open reactor” at unit 3 of the Kudankulam nuclear power project in Tirunelveli district, Tamil Nadu.
The process involves flushing and conditioning the safety systems and main coolant pipelines using light water to establish the required cleanliness for subsequent commissioning stages. It also marks the start of individual functional testing of primary system equipment.
