AERB approves clearance for equipment installation at Kudankulam units 5 and 6

The Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) has approved Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) for major equipment erection at units 5 and 6 of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project in Tamil Nadu.

The approval has allowed NPCIL to proceed with the installation of critical components, including the reactor pressure vessel, steam generators and coolant pumps. The approval follows a multi-tier safety review covering reactor design, safety parameters and civil construction progress. The Kudankulam project comprises six VVER pressurised water reactor units of 1,000 MW each, being developed with Russian technical collaboration. Units 1 and 2 are operational, while units 3 and 4 are at an advanced stage of construction.
