The Central Electricity Authority (CEA), in collaboration with the All India Discoms Association, has issued standard technical specifications for single-phase and three-phase cold rolled grain oriented (CRGO) core distribution transformers.
The specifications mandate compliance with IS 1180 (Part I): 2014 standards and its subsequent amendments, Bureau of Indian Standards certification, Indian Standards Institute marking and Bureau of Energy Efficiency star labelling for all covered transformers. They also define technical requirements related to transformer design, permissible losses, materials, testing and inspection. In addition, the guidelines introduce stricter quality control measures, including traceability of CRGO materials, mandatory routine and type testing, and inspection requirements prior to supply.
