Arunachal Pradesh signs agreement with Greenko Demwe for 1,750 MW hydroelectric project

The Arunachal Pradesh government has signed an agreement with Greenko Demwe Power Limited for development of the 1,750 MW Demwe Lower Hydroelectric Project on the Lohit river.

The project is located near Parasuram Kund and Brahma Kund and is one of the largest private sector hydropower collaborations in the state. It will comprise five generating units of 342 MW each and one 40 MW unit, with expected annual generation of around 7,326 million units. The project will include a reservoir with a storage capacity of 516.38 million cubic metres along with a concrete gravity dam and a comprehensive water handling system. This includes spillway arrangements, diversion tunnels, underground pressure shafts and a surface powerhouse located on the right bank of the Lohit river. The powerhouse will be equipped with vertical Francis turbines.
