China’s SGCC advances 500 kV grid expansion projects in three provinces

State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC), China’s state-owned transmission utility, through its subsidiaries State Grid Chongqing Electric Power Company, State Grid Sichuan Electric Power Company, and Henan Power Transmission and Transformation Construction Company Limited, has commissioned the 500 kV Banan–Xinyu project in Chongqing, secured approval for the 500 kV Ziyang II project in Sichuan province, and completed final acceptance inspection for the 500 kV Xuchang South project in Henan province, to strengthen regional grid reliability and support rising electricity demand. The CNY1.338 billion Banan–Xinyu transmission and transformation project was energised on May 17, 2026, marking the first 500 kV project to enter operation in the municipality during the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) period.
