Saudi Electricity Company (SE), Saudi Arabia’s national electricity utility, has commissioned 2.5 GW grid-forming BESS across five locations in the country, making it the largest grid forming BESS projects globally.
Alfanar Projects, a Saudi Arabian EPC contractor, delivered the five projects under SE’s Phase III Energy Storage Program, in Riyadh, Rabigh, Dawadmi, Al Jouf, and Qassim. The project has completed all grid-tied charging and discharging tests, and is now fully operational.
