Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Nigeria’s state-owned transmission network operator, has granted Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited (MESL), operator of the Kainji Hydroelectric Power Plant, access to commence construction of two 330 kV bays at the Kainji substation in Niger state.
The two bays will facilitate the evacuation of electricity from two new generating units at the Kainji power station into Nigeria’s national grid upon completion. The project is being fully financed and implemented by MESL at no cost to TCN. Construction is scheduled for completion by December 2026.
