State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Limited, the Jiangsu subsidiary of State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC), has completed the expansion of the 500 kV Gaoyou substation in Yangzhou city, Jiangsu province, marking the completion of all key 500 kV projects planned to strengthen the province’s electricity supply ahead of the summer peak demand season.
The final phase was commissioned with the expansion of the 500 kV Gaoyou substation, including a new 1,000 MVA transformer that increased total transformation capacity from 3,000 MVA to 4,000 MVA to support rising demand in the northern Yangzhou–Taizhou power grid. It followed the commissioning of the 500 kV Shanghe–Gaoyou transmission line capacity enhancement project, which comprised 146 km of new overhead lines (OHL), 364 transmission towers, and the replacement of 400 sq mm conductors with 630 sq mm heat-resistant conductors, increasing transmission capacity to 6.6 GW, and improving power supply reliability in Huai’an and Yangzhou.
