Odisha has emerged as a leading performer under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, securing the top position among states in the medium consumer base category at the PM Surya Ghar Excellence Awards. The achievement reflects the joint efforts of the Government of Odisha and Tata Power-led Odisha discoms, which are implementing the rooftop solar programme across the state. Odisha ranked first in consumer applications, rooftop solar installations and discom technical inspections, and third in vendor registrations. As of June 2026, the state has made significant progress in rooftop solar adoption, enabling households to reduce electricity bills, with nearly 11,000 homes in western Odisha reporting near-zero monthly power bills.
