Indonesia targets completion of new National Energy Plan by September 2026

Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources plans to complete the 2026-2035 National Energy General Plan (RUEN) by September 2026 following a series of public consultations across several provinces. The roadmap, which follows the revised National Energy Policy issued in October 2025, will provide the country’s long-term framework for energy supply, demand and transition over the next decade. Consultations are being conducted with regional governments, industry stakeholders, experts and the public to gather input before the plan is finalised.

The updated RUEN will establish national strategies for energy demand and supply, resource development, decarbonisation, investment and financing, while also providing region-specific projections across Indonesia’s seven energy regions to reflect differing resource availability and development needs. The drafting process began in April 2026 with participation from government agencies and energy-sector stakeholders, and the completed plan will be enacted through a presidential regulation.
