India and Australia finalise arrangements for Australian uranium exports to India

India and Australia have signed the administrative arrangement necessary to enable the export of Australian uranium to India. The arrangement has been finalised under the Australia-India Nuclear Cooperation Agreement, which was signed in 2014 and came into force in 2015. It will enable long-term commercial supplies of Australian uranium for India’s nuclear power projects.

The uranium exports will be used exclusively for peaceful purposes and will remain subject to safeguards of the International Atomic Energy Agency, as provided under the 2015 agreement. The arrangement was finalised during bilateral discussions between the two countries, where both sides reaffirmed cooperation in civil nuclear energy, maritime security and critical minerals.
