Prasad Kanakamedala is managing director of VITAL Infraa Private Limited, an emerging leader in India’s energy and infrastructure sector. Since founding the company in 2016, he has transformed VITAL Infraa from a diversified enterprise into a specialised engineering, procurement and construction organisation focused on power distribution, smart grid technologies, distribution automation and digital utility solutions.
With over 25 years of experience in the power and automation industry, including key roles at Schneider Electric and Siemens, Prasad brings a strong blend of technical expertise, operational excellence and strategic vision. His deep understanding of utility operations and emerging technologies has enabled VITAL Infraa to establish a strong presence in the field of grid digitalisation through advanced solutions such as supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), advanced distribution management system (ADMS) and outage management system (OMS) and integrated control centres. Under his leadership, the company has also expanded into airport infrastructure and other critical infrastructure projects.
A significant milestone in his career was securing and successfully executing the SCADA, ADMS and OMS project for Telangana Northern Power Distribution Company Limited. The project stands as one of India’s largest distribution control centre integrations, connecting over 1,200 substations and setting new benchmarks in utility automation and operational efficiency.
Prasad views India’s power sector as a high-growth industry driven by increasing electricity demand, urbanisation and renewable energy integration. At the same time, he recognises the need to address persistent challenges such as financially stressed distribution utilities, ageing infrastructure and grid inefficiencies through technology-led modernisation and smarter asset management.
