MNRE extends ALMM List-II exemption for net-metering and open access solar projects till December 31, 2026

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has extended the exemption from the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) List-II requirement for solar photovoltaic (PV) cells for net-metering and open access renewable energy projects until December 31, 2026. The decision replaces the earlier exemption that was available only until May 31, 2026.

The ministry clarified that there will be no blanket extension of ALMM List-II beyond June 1, 2026 for solar power projects. However, the limited exemption has been provided for net-metering and open access renewable energy projects to facilitate a smooth transition to the mandatory use of domestically approved solar PV cells. Projects commissioned on or before December 31, 2026 will continue to be exempt from the ALMM List-II requirement. However, those commissioned from January 1, 2027 onwards will be required to source solar PV cells from ALMM List-II, in addition to procuring solar PV modules from ALMM List-I.
