The West Bengal government is planning to set up three 800 MW supercritical or ultra-supercritical coal-based thermal power units, involving investments of over Rs 300 billion.
Two units will be developed at Santaldih under the public-private partnership model, while the third will be developed by West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited (WBPDCL) at Bakreshwar. The Bakreshwar unit, estimated to cost Rs 100.7 billion, will be WBPDCL’s first supercritical thermal power unit after the commissioning of the fifth unit at Sagardighi Thermal Power Station earlier this year.
