Serentica Renewables, the renewable energy arm of the Vedanta Group, has commissioned the first phase of its 1 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at Bikaner, Rajasthan. The commissioned phase comprises a 200 MWh BESS that will store surplus renewable energy generated during the day and supply it during peak demand periods.
This marks the company’s entry into utility-scale energy storage for the commercial and industrial (C&I) sector. The project has been developed with a modular architecture to enable scalability and operational flexibility. It supports one of the world’s first time-block round-the-clock renewable power arrangements for industrial consumers. Further, the company also plans to develop a 7 GWh battery storage pipeline over the next two years for the C&I segment.
