India reviews power sector cooperation with Sri Lanka and Bhutan

India recently reviewed bilateral cooperation in the power sector with Sri Lanka and Bhutan. With Sri Lanka, discussions covered the progress of the proposed India-Sri Lanka high voltage direct current (HVDC) interconnection and the Sampur Solar Power Project. The two sides also discussed cross-border electricity trade, renewable energy, transmission infrastructure and capacity building.

Further, India and Bhutan reviewed ongoing cooperation in hydropower development, cross-border electricity trade, transmission connectivity, renewable energy and institutional cooperation. The discussions covered key hydropower projects, including Punatsangchhu-I, Punatsangchhu-II, Sankosh and Chukha. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation through continued dialogue and timely implementation of mutually beneficial initiatives.
