Coal India Limited (CIL) and ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India Private Limited (AMNS) have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore the use of syngas from a proposed coal gasification facility to be established by CIL.
The facility is proposed to be established adjacent to or at AMNS’ Paradip Pellet Plant in Odisha and will be integrated with carbon capture, utilisation, and storage. Under the MoU, the initial focus will be on assessing the technical, commercial, and implementation modalities of the project. The two companies will also prepare a preliminary feasibility report to evaluate project viability.
