Chinese company completes 1,000 kV/1,000 MVA UHVAC transformer tests

Chint Electric, a Chinese power equipment manufacturer, has completed the first tests of its independently developed 1,000 kV/1,000 MVA ultra-high voltage alternating current (UHVAC) transformer, addressing transmission capacity, losses, and equipment safety requirements for China’s UHV power grid.

The transformer operates at 1,000 kV, described as the highest voltage level currently used in AC power systems, with a 1,000 MVA capacity for high-capacity, low-loss and reliable power transmission. It passed all routine and type tests in a single test programme, witnessed by experts from State Grid Electric Power Research Institute Wuhan NARI Company Limited and Shenyang Transformer Research Institute.
