Egypt’s Scatec reaches full operations at 1.1 GW Obelisk solar and BESS project

Scatec ASA, a Norway-based renewable energy solutions provider, has achieved the commercial operations date (COD) for the second phase of its 1.1 GW Obelisk solar PV and 100 MW/200 MWh BESS project in Egypt. The project was developed in two phases. The first phase, comprising 561 MW of solar PV capacity and the full 100 MW/200 MWh BESS facility, has commenced operations. The second phase added a further 564 MW of solar capacity, bringing the project’s total solar capacity to 1.1 GW. Scatec signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) in November 2024, with electricity to be supplied under the 25-year, US dollar denominated PPA.
