Singapore’s Energy Market Authority (EMA) has awarded Tuas Power the right to build, own and operate a 670MW combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plant at Tuas Power Station. The plant is expected to cost between SGD700 million and SGD1 billion, subject to the final tender outcome.
The plant will be capable of operating with up to 30 per cent hydrogen blended with natural gas, while retaining diesel as a backup fuel. The CCGT unit will be developed as part of Singapore’s requirement for new and repowered gas plants to achieve higher efficiency and hydrogen compatibility. The project will replace ageing generation capacity and provide additional electricity supply for rising demand from energy-intensive sectors.
