Southern Africa advances interconnector development

The African Union Development Agency–New Partnership for Africa’s Development, Botswana government, Southern African Development Community, Southern African Power Pool, African Development Bank, and EU have advanced implementation arrangements for the Botswana–Namibia, Botswana–South Africa and Botswana–Zambia interconnectors. The interconnectors are intended to strengthen cross-border electricity trading and enable Botswana’s planned renewable generation to reach regional markets, while improving access to power in Namibia and Zambia, and supporting South Africa’s regional electricity trading role.
