The Government of Niger has entered into a public-private partnership (PPP) with Niger Electricity Power Production (NEPP) to develop a 200 MW solar photovoltaic plant with battery energy storage system (BESS) in Niamey. The project represents an investment of 126.1 billion CFA francs. Project construction and financial mobilisation are expected to take approximately 24 months.
Furthermore, the project after commencing operations will sell electricity directly to state-owned utility, Société Nigérienne d’Électricité, at a contracted tariff of 35 CFA francs per kWh. The project will be implemented under a 20-year build, operate and transfer concession. At the end of the concession period, the project’s ownership will be transferred to the State of Niger.
